Concept Note
SARPN is organizing a 2-and-half days training seminar on poverty with the focus on analysis of poverty (nature/dimensions, depth and measurement) and impact of economic policies on growth, poverty and distribution in the SADC Region. The training will be held from 21-23 August 2006 in Pretoria, South Africa.
This training is targeted at senior level civil society members without specific training in this area. The course will enable participants to gain a deeper understanding in poverty and its dynamics. This will ultimately result in civil society interventions that have a greater impact on poverty reduction.
At the end of the training participants will achieve the following:

acknowledge and understanding of the underlying assumptions relating to methods and techniques of poverty measurement, its various dimensions and depth

exposure to techniques/methods required to develop poverty analysis and impact assessments which will ultimately assist them in reading trends and assist in targeting interventions

have shared and learnt how country experiences link to the global agenda on poverty
-
gained knowledge and understanding of how and when policy interventions are needed by different actors to enhance poverty reduction efforts in Southern Africa
-
understanding how to plan, implement and evaluate poverty reduction programs as CSOs working on these issues.
