The Union For African Population Studies (UAPS), in partnership with The National Board
of the Family and Population (ONFP) and with the support of UNFPA and other institutions
is organizing, in Tunisia from 8 to 12 December 2003, the Fourth African Population
Conference on the theme «Population and Poverty in Africa : Facing the 21st century
challenges»
The organization of this fourth conference on African population stems from UAPS
willingness to set the conditions for a common reflection on the individual, collective and
political strategies to implement in order to cope with the challenges posed by the diptych
“Population and poverty in Africa”.
In this respect, the major innovation at this conference of a mature UAPS will consist in
offering the scientific community the opportunity for experts on African population to share
ideas with top level decision-makers and leaders on the reciprocal implications of poverty
and population growth, phenomena that are central among the challenges of twenty-first
century Africa.
